The M State Spartans could not put the Minnesota West Blue Jays away Wednesday evening, allowing the visitors to take home a five set win (26-28, 25-22, 23-25, 25-22, 15-11).

The Spartans started out winning a close first set playing into extra points, but dropped the second set in another close match.

M State had the Blue Jays on their heels after winning the third set, but Minnesota West was able to fight back and win the next two sets to pick up a victory in a MCAC Southern Division matchup.

The Spartans Morgan Kapphahn led the offensive attack with 18 kills, while her counterpart Katey Granstra matched her output with 18 of her own.

Kapphahn also had a great defensive effort as she recorded 19 digs.

M State will hit the road Friday to play in the Harper College tournament in Chicago over the weekend.
