Head-on collision leaves two injured

A head on collision north of Pelican Rapids Thursday evening resulted no life threatening injuries.

The accident occurred at around 7 p.m. Thursday at 473rd Avenue and County Highway 9 north of Pelican Rapids.

Michael Joseph Sword, 57, of Roseville, was driving his Chevy Impala north on County Highway 9 when he attempted to pass a tractor in front of him. Sword pulled into the passing lane and began to accelerate. Donald Ackerman, 78, of rural Pelican Rapids was driving his Buick Roadmaster south on the same road, and despite efforts to avoid each other, the two vehicles collided head on. Both drivers suffered non life-threatening injuries.

The Pelican Rapids Police Department, Pelican Rapids Fire Department, the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department and Ringdahl Ambulance responded.

Sword was cited for traffic violations that led to the accident.
