BRAINERD — The M State Spartan football team traveled to Brainerd Saturday for a Southern Division football game and lost to the Central Lakes Raiders 39-6.

“Basically the same story as the rest of our losses,” Spartan coach Steve King said. “We can compete for three quarters, we fall behind, and then we need to play catch up football and that is not our game. Central Lakes is too good of a football team to make the mistakes we did today. They dominated our offense.”

M State offense had several changes as Eric Riley moved to quarterback and the Spartans ran a spread style offense.

The Raiders were able to play tough defense and held the Spartans scoreless going into the half with a 12-0 lead.

The Spartans were unable to generate any offense in the second half, gaining only 11 second half yards. Their lone touchdown was scored on an 80 yard kickoff return by Jacoby Scruggs on a very nice burst down the left sideline.

The Spartans will look to rebound as they host Rochester CC Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
