VIRGINIA — The M State men’s golf team tied a team low Sunday afternoon shooting a 296 to win the Mesabi Invite.

The Spartans were on fire on a chilly fall day as they bested host Mesabi Range (305) and Hibbing CC (318) to take the victory.

M State’ Brady Robertson took home medalist honors shooting even par (71), while teammate Lucas Gervais finished fourth overall with a 73.

“It was a great day for our team and was a shootout against an excellent Mesabi team and an improving Hibbing and Central Lakes.,” Spartan coach Jason Retzlaff said. “Tying the school scoring record was great to do on a course we saw for the first time today.”

The Spartans had six of their seven players shoot scores in the 70s during the meet.

M State will look to close out their regular season with a win as they play at The Wilderness in Tower Monday.
