Risbrudt wins 200th

After 35 years of coaching, Fergus Falls Otter head coach Richard Risbrudt celebrated his 200th win as the Otters defeated the Sartell-St. Stephen Sabres 35-28 Friday.

Fergus was able to get on the board first as quarterback Brady Hansen hooked up with wideout Reece Johnson for a 21-yard touchdown.

The Sabres would respond before the end of the first quarter as Pat Fischer slipped by Otter defenders for a 25-yard touchdown pass from Parker Hagen.

Fergus regained the lead in the second quarter as Walker Heinen sprinted into the endzone from seven yards out. Sartell would not take the score lying down as they answered again, this time with a 63-yard run by Darek Stachowski and followed on their next drive with a eight-yard pass from Hagen to his fullback Matthew Worzala.

It looked to be a battle of gunslingers as Hansen and the Otters answered the call finding Johnson for a 32-yard touchdown, their second connection of the evening. Hansen would add his third touchdown toss of the night on a eight-yard pass to Drew Reinertson to take a 28-21 halftime lead.

The second half began with neither team finding a weakness in the other’s defense.

The fourth quarter would get exciting as the Sabres knotted the game back up on a 40-yard Hagen to Fischer pass.

With time winding down, Heinen capped off another great night on the ground with his second touchdown run as he plunged from three yards out to give the Otters the lead and the eventual win.

“It feel great,” Risbrudt said about winning his 200th game. “It was a very exciting offensive battle. It was pandemonium for four quarters with our defense coming through with four big plays.”

Hansen finished the night with three touchdown passes and 74 yards in the air. Heinen finished the evening with 40 carries for 249 yards and two touchdowns in the victory.

“Walker did it again this week, running with all his heart,” Risbrudt added.

The Otters will look to continue their winning ways as they welcome in the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks for the 2012 homecoming game Friday at 7 p.m.
