Comets fall to Cathedral [UPDATED]
Published 10:59am Tuesday, October 2, 2012 Updated 10:59am Tuesday, October 2, 2012The Hillcrest Lutheran Academy boys soccer team took a tough 3–0 loss to a fast, physical St. Cloud Cathedral team Monday. This was the Comets’ second loss of the season, bringing their record to 8–2–1.
“We did well for the first half of the first half, but their speed and quickness wore us down,” said Comets head coach Rod Jensen. “They caused us to create mistakes on the defensive end.”
Twenty-five minutes into the game, Crusader senior midfielder Myles Hagen knocked in a goal following a defensive miscue by the Comets, Jensen said.
This was the turning point of the game. The Comets saw two more goals sneak by in the second half but weren’t able to answer back.
The Comets saw good efforts from midfielders Kevin Franco, Danny Franco, Eduardo Urbano and Daniel Romarheim.
“I knew this would be the toughest game of the regular season,” Jensen said. “I would love the opportunity to play them again.”
There is a chance the teams could face off again in the postseason. The Comets will have two more opportunities to improve their record before the playoffs. They will take on the Detroit Lakes Lakers Thursday and the Bemidji Lumberjacks Monday, Oct. 8.
