Otter boys fall to St. Cloud Apollo, 7-1 [UPDATED]Published 8:44am Wednesday, October 3, 2012 Updated 12:45pm Wednesday, October 3, 2012
The Otters suffered a tough 7–1 loss to an excellent St. Cloud Apollo soccer team Tuesday night.
Apollo scored in the eighth minute after a great through ball made for an easy goal. The Eagles scored three more goals in the first half at the 19th, 27th and 44th minutes.
The Otters’ only score came from Mitchell Cole after a cross pass from Seth Stein. Sam Rausch worked the ball up the left side of the field to Stein, who sent the ball to Mitchel Cole. Cole made a run between two defenders and placed an excellent shot past the Eagle goalie, said head coach Beau Krueger.
The second half was all Apollo as the Eagles scored at the 48th, 62nd and 79th minutes.
“We have been working very hard on defensive positioning,” Krueger said. “We have stressed putting yourself in a position with options rather than fully committing yourself, or stabbing at the ball.”
Krueger said 7–1 was not the score he wanted to see, but he noted that compared last time the Otters took on the Eagles, it was a more competitive game.
The Otters wil host St. Cloud Tech at 5 p.m. Thursday.
