Richard J. Aasen, 69, of Kingsland, Ga., died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at Shands Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla.overwhelming

Born July 26, 1943, in Sioux Falls, S.D., he was the son of the late Jennings and Luella Aasen.

Richard had resided in Camden County, Ga., since 2006. He was an exceptional craftsman, residential home contractor in Minnesota. and was very unique in his style of work.

He was an avid football fan and loved watching his favorite team, the Minnesota Vikings. Richard loved most of all watching his grandchildren in all their sports activities and the Camden County High School football and baseball games.

He was a member of the American Legion and VFW in Minnesota, attended Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in St. Marys, Ga., and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he served honorably during Vietnam.

Memorial services were held Monday, October 1, 2012 at 11:00 am from Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys, GA, with Kevin Lang officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Aasen of Kingsland, Ga.; sons, Jim Lawrence, Jr. of Monticello, Jason Lawrence (Heidi) of East Haddam, Conn., and Chad Lawrence (Charlotte) of San Diego, Calif.; a brother, Ronald Aasen of Sioux Falls, S.D.; sisters, Addie Larson of Phoenix, Ariz., Joyce Jurmu of Maplewood, and Rita Aasen of St. Paul; nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Allison Memorial Chapel of St. Marys, Ga., is in charge of arrangements.
