The Hillcrest/Pelican Rapids boys soccer team battled the wind and the rain, but kept their focus as they defeated Detroit Lakes 3-1 at home Thursday.

At the nine minute mark, Luis Martinez, attacking the right side, found Eduardo Urbano for blast into the goal.

A Romario Moreno header put the Comets up 2-0 16 minutes into the game.

The Comets would add another goal before the end of the half as Chris Pelligrino found the back of the Laker net for a 3-0 lead.

The Lakers defense played tough in the second half holding off the charging Comet offense, but Detroit Lakes could only muster up a late goal as they took the loss.

Comet goalie Vegard Hetlebakke had another great game in net as he kept the net clean most of the evening.

The Comets will close out their regular season Monday as they host the Lakes to Prairie Conference champion Bemidji at 3:30 p.m.
