The ‘best’ is at the Y [UPDATED]
Published 9:15am Friday, October 5, 2012 Updated 11:16am Friday, October 5, 2012The heading for my daily devotion one day this week was: “The Best is Yet to Come,” and with all that’s going on at this YMCA — it may be true right here at the Y in Fergus Falls.
Among the best: New child watch location, larger and expanded hours morning and evening and Saturdays; the second annual YMCA Foundation Heritage Club brunch in October; the new adult spinning bikes will arrived in October; youth basketball starts Oct. 15; adult volleyball league starts in November; new computer software being installed to care for the Y’s records; Halloween is planned at the Y Oct. 26, with family fun from 6 to 8 p.m. open to the community, new building and grounds Director Russ Walz is busy doing some painting and getting some tips from “old timer Larry”; new Health and Wellness Coordinator Stacy Vaughn on duty and still looking for a Youth and Family Coordinator and an Aquatics Coordinator.
Now, how is that for a list of new activities here or on their way with new employees to help Director Tim Olson run the Y.
The Y’s folk are just four days away from serving the flapjack and sausage supper this week on Tuesday, Oct. 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the YMCA.
Community welcome and be prepared to observe the western theme and use Al Seltz’ s variety of homemade berry syrup.
A newer Y’s folk member Daryl Johnson is chairman of the event this year and he is getting good advice and assistance from old timers Ron and Yvonne Burt. Daryl says there is a lot to prepare. This is one of the three Y’s folk fund raisers with money going to the YMCA.
The Christmas cookie sale is next and that will be on Wednesday morning Dec. 5.
The Y’s folk association meeting on Monday, Oct. 15 will be a potluck noon lunchen with a program and business meeting to follow.
There is probably not much business to bring up at the meeting but you will want to be there for the Program. Fergus Falls school Superintendent Jerry Ness will be giving us the low down about the proposed Bond Referendum to restructure the outdoor athletic facilities of the Fergus Falls School.
Come and learn what it involves and how it will be financed.
School District Superintendent Ness came to our school in 2006 from West Central Area Schools where he was for 15 years and at Herman school 10 years before that.
He hails from an area just Northwest of FF with degrees from Bemidji State and NDSU. Since coming to Fergus Falls, he and his wife, Karen, have become
very welcome in the community.
Remember we play bridge and whist on Monday afternoons at the Y.
