Adella McClelland, formerly of Wilmot, S.D., died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012.

Dottie” (Heinje) McClelland was born April 9, 1924, in Wilmot, S.D., one of five children born to John and Martha (Reil) Heinje. She was baptized on April 14, 1924, at Christ Lutheran Church in Wilmot and confirmed on Nov. 13, 1938, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Corona, S.D.

She attended rural school at Lake Township 5, and graduated from Wilmot High School in 1942.

Dottie married William T. McClelland on Sept, 15, 1951, in California.

They were blessed with one daughter, Trish. Dottie lived in Inglewood, Calif., and worked at Douglas Aircraft. She also lived in Key West, Fla., and San Diego, Calif., before moving to Chesapeake, Va.

In 1972, Dottie and Trish moved to Wilmot, S.D., so that Dottie could help care for her parents. Dottie worked at the Wilmot Care Center for 20 years and retired in June of 1992. She moved to Watertown, S.D., in 1995, and has since resided there.

Dottie enjoyed crossword and word search puzzles. She also found pleasure in travel and had visited every state with the exception of Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.

She always enjoyed sharing a good cup of coffee with friends and was a woman who touched many lives as she had the ability to see a need and give her support to those around her.

Above all, Dottie cherished her grandchildren and enjoyed playing “Kings in the Corner” and “Go Fish” card games with them.

They will treasure the memory of their grandma’s homemade enchiladas and goulash. Her great-grandchildren will have memories of the time she spent reading to them and playing with Play-Doh.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Trish McClelland of Battle Lake; three grandchildren, Chris Buttke of Battle Lake, Darci Buttke of St. Paul, and Heidi Olson of Casper, Wyo.; six great-grandchildren, Matthew Herrick, Olivia Buttke, Landin Olson, Canonn Olson, Brook-Lyn Olson, and Boston Olson; one sister, Leona “Tootie” Kossman of Holstein, Iowa; one brother, Ernest “Red” Heinje of Wilmot, S.D.; one sister-in-law, Vivian Heinje of Tucson, Ariz.; and her extended family and dear friends in Virginia, North Carolina and Florida.
