Chester Gordon Laugen, 91 [UPDATED]

Chester Laugen, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at Broen Home in Fergus Falls.

He was born March 7, 1921, in Fergus Falls, the son of George and Christie (Sletvold) Laugen. He attended country school through the eighth grade and also attended the University of Minnesota Farm School for one year.

On June 12, 1965, he married Arlene Johnson at Tingvold Lutheran Church, rural Underwood. They made their home on the family farm, rural Rothsay, where they farmed until his retirement in 1983. Together they moved to Fergus Falls in 2010, where they lived at Mill Street.

Chester was a lifetime member of Hedemarken Lutheran Church, a member of the Elizabeth Sportsman’s Club, Elizabeth Creamery and Land O Lakes Board of Directors.

He volunteered at the Otter Tail County Historical Society, was a member of the farmers bowling league and a lifelong horseshoe player, belonging to several leagues as well as winning many tournaments over the years.

He also enjoyed being Santa Claus at the Carlisle School.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and two half brothers, George and Edward Laugen.

Chester is survived by his wife, Arlene of Fergus Falls; a son, Charles (Renae) Laugen of Elk River; and two granddaughters, Kelsey and Kristina of Elk River.

Visitation: Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service at the church

Service: 1 p.m. Thursday, at Hedemarken Lutheran Church, rural Carlisle
