The Hillcrest Comets’ boys soccer team finished out their regular season on their home field, but were unable to put away the Bemidji Lumberjacks as they played to a 2-2 tie Monday afternoon.

The first half was a back-in-forth battle as each team was feeling the other out. The Comets were finally able to break the stalemate with a minute and a half remaining as Chris Pellegrino booted a one-timer into the right corner of the net off a Daniel Romarhiem pass.

The Lumberjacks looked to make a statement in the second half as they came out aggressively, nailing two goals into the back of the Comets net at the 49 and 51 minute mark to take the lead. Hillcrest was able to knot the game back up at two goals a piece as Luis Martinez deposited the ball between the pipes on a free kick outside the box.

In overtime, neither team was able to make a substantial move against the other, ending the match in a tie.

The Comets now await final section standings to determine playoff opponent and time for a home game on Thursday.
