Man charged with murder attempt
Published 11:16am Wednesday, October 10, 2012An alleged marijuana sale turned hostile Oct. 4 in Pelican Rapids, resulting in shots fired and a car chase. That’s the story told by court records filed Tuesday charging Fikret Saric, 28, of Pelican Rapids, with two counts of second degree attempted murder.
Saric is being held on $250,000 bail for unconditional release or $150,000 for conditional release.
Pelican Rapids police first began investigating the incident Thursday night after receiving a report that a car was driving near 209 2nd St. NW in Pelican Rapids when a man came out and fired a handgun at the car. The car then reportedly was chased by a silver car, though police reported that the car gave up the pursuit before police responded.
When police began interviewing witnesses, more details started coming to light. Witnesses allegedly reported that the car’s occupants had traveled from Fergus Falls to Pelican Rapids in order to buy $30 of marijuana (two grams) from Saric, who was allegedly at the home.
At least one of the car’s occupants reportedly entered the home, while at least two stayed outside. While the car’s occupants were waiting, Saric allegedly came out of the house and fired the handgun twice at the car, leaving a large caliber bullet hole in the passenger side front door. The occupants believed Saric was trying to kill them, and the car drove away, and Saric drove in pursuit in a car that had been parked at the home.
Police continued to investigate the case throughout Oct. 4 and 5 before executing a search warrant at the home on Oct. 6. At that time, police allegedly found a .40 caliber round in a bag of leaves.
Neither police nor court records have reported what exactly is believed to have happened that would cause Saric to try to shoot the car’s occupants.
