Perham CC wins boys, girls HOL title

PERHAM — The Perham Yellowjacket Cross Country team didn’t shock anyone Tuesday afternoon, but were able to do something amazing as the boys team captured their 11th straight title, while the girls claimed their ninth straight at the Heart O’Lakes Conference Championship.

Running on their home course, the Yellowjacket boys were able to claim the title, followed by Pelican Rapids and Thief River Falls.

Perham runners Keeghan Hurley (15:48.90), Brady Speicher (15:57.30), Billy Beseman (16:17.10), Jayden Cullen (16:18.20), Nick Carignan (16:18.30), Dalton Dahms (16:35.90) and Ben Sullivan (17:01.80) all finished in the top eight.

Pelican Rapids’ Cody Bekkerus finished in seventh with a time of 16:46, while teammate Josh Mackner (17:20.70) took 12th.

West Central finished in fifth as Alex Toms led the Knights, finishing in 17th with a time of 17:47.60.

The Perham girls were able to take first past a tough Warroad team, while Pelican Rapids finished in third.

The Vikings’ Emily Bakken took top honors, individually, with a time of 15:26.50, while teammate Tianna Wald took third with a time of 15:35.30.

Brynnan Covington captured fourth, leading Perham runners with a time 15:42.

Abby VanKempen had a great meet for West Central placing fifth with a time of 15:47.20 for the fifth place Knights.
