Evelyn P. Ryder, 83, of Perham

Evelyn Ryder, formerly of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at the Thomas House in Perham.

Evelyn Pearl Ryder was born on Dec. 6, 1928, in Otter Tail County, to Ralph and Gertrude Ferguson Schempp.

She grew up and attended country school near Richville. On Jan. 5, 1947, she married David E. Ryder. They made their home and raised their family in Detroit Lakes.

Over the years Evelyn worked at the Evans Grocery Store and the Norby’s Department Store in Detroit Lakes.

Family was very important to Evelyn. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, canning, baking, and reading. She was also active in 4-H with her children.

She also enjoyed square dancing, and camping throughout the United States with her husband.

Evelyn is survived by her husband David, one daughter, JoAnn Berberich of Audubon; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Sue Wagner of Richville and Linda Schempp of Moorhead; and several nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was preceded in death by one son, Paul David “Butch” Ryder; her parents; one brother, Roger Schempp; and one son-in-law, Roger Berberich.

Visitation: Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service at the church

Service: 2 p.m. Friday, at United Methodist Church, Detroit Lakes

Burial: Lakeview Cemetery, Detroit Lakes

Funeral Home: West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes
