Local brewers to show off wares

Area residents will have an opportunity to get a taste of some local favorites at the Brewers Festival Friday at the VFW.

About 15 local brewers will bring their best wine and beer to the festival, which will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. Everyone over the age of 21 is welcome to attend and try samples.

Admission is $15 at the door or $12 in advance, and all proceeds will go to the Otter Tail County Historical Society. The VFW will provide hors d’oeuvres.

“We typically have several hundred people in attendance,” said historical society executive director Chris Schuelke. “The VFW is able to accommodate large crowds, so we’re not going to turn anyone away.”

The Brewers Fest has been an annual event for more than 10 years, and Schuelke said this is the highlight of the fall for a lot of people.

“People like to indulge a little bit in some wine and beer, but it’s not like a typical bar setting,” he said. “It’s a social event, and it’s little samples, so it stays pretty mellow. It can also be informative if you’re interested in making home crafted beer or wine. It’s just a fun event.”
