Student shoots self at Fairmount School [UPDATED]

The Richland County, North Dakota Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident that occurred this morning when a student walked to the front of a classroom at Fairmount School and shot himself.

Law enforcement was called about the shooting around 8:45 a.m. today. No other students were injured, and according to an early afternoon press release from the sheriff’s office, the student who shot himself was transported to St. Francis Medical Center.

The school was put into lockdown until law enforcement determined that the student shooting himself was an isolated event. School was then canceled for the day, and parents picked up their children.
