Bike path construction halted because of human remains discovery [UPDATED]
Published 9:39am Friday, October 12, 2012 Updated 11:41am Friday, October 12, 2012Construction on the bike path in Ottertail had to be stopped recently due to the discovery of human remains.
A skid steer operator noticed a bone while working on the path at a Native American burial mound near Highway 108. Archeology students and professors from Hamline University removed the remains, and they intend to restore the bones to a proper grave site under the direction of the Indian Nation they belong to.
The Ottertail City Council has agreed to cover the cost of the excavation and remains identification. The goal is still to have the bike path completed before the end of fall, the East Otter Tail Focus reported.
