The Fergus Falls Otter girls soccer team were able to dispatch their crosstown rival Hillcrest Comets 4-2 in the opening round of the Section 8A playoffs Thursday.

The game went up and down the field in the early going, but Fergus’ Lauren Norgren gave the Otters the advantage with a goal at the 12 minute mark.

Hillcrest played a great possession game during the half, but quickly saw the game get out of hand as Norgren would add another goal 12 minutes before the break.

The Otters continued their offensive assault as Kathryn Sawtell notched an unassisted goal, followed by Norgren’s third goal of the game.

The Comets would respond with 20 seconds left in the half to make it 4-1 at the break.

Hillcrest scored the lone goal of the second half as Abigail Monacelli found the back of the Fergus net two minutes into the half.

“It was a fun game under the lights tonight,” Otter coach Karoline Gustafson said. “We had some great ball movement which created many opportunities for us.”

The Otters will now travel to East Grand Forks to take on the top-seeded Green Wave Saturday.

The Comets end their season with a 4-8-1 record.
