Library renewal project update [UPDATED]
Published 9:31am Friday, October 12, 2012 Updated 11:32am Friday, October 12, 2012The Fergus Falls Public Library Renewal Task Force hosted three focus group sessions (small group interviews) with community members ages 55 and up during July, August and September. Twenty-six individuals took part in the focus group sessions. During the sessions, Library Task Force and Board members asked participants about their experiences using the library, what needs they felt the public library serves in the community and how their personal library use has evolved or changed over the years.
Additional focus groups for early childhood service providers, families with young children and teens are planned for this month:
On Monday, Oct. 18, from 10-11a.m. the Library Task Force, along with the Early Childhood Initiative, invites early childhood care providers to participate in a focus group. Location to be determined. Contact me at esmith@fergusfalls.lib.mn.us or 739-9387 if you’re interested in joining us.
On Tuesday, Oct. 23, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., the Task Force and library teen advisory group, the NINJAS, will host a focus group for teens at the library.
Also on Tuesday, Oct. 23 from 5-6:30p.m., the Task Force will host a focus group for families with young children (birth through age 6) at McKinley School (724 W. Laurel Ave.). Childcare will be provided during this focus group session.
Treats will be served during each focus group and door prizes will also be given away.
The Library Renewal Task Force invites anyone interested in providing input regarding library services and community needs, and we ask you to also consider inviting a friend.
Because it is important to keep the focus group sessions small in order to ensure everyone gets a chance to share their experiences and thoughts, the Library Task Force does ask that you contact me at 218-332-5776 or esmith@fergusfalls.lib.mn.us to express your interest and reserve a spot.
The Library Renewal Task Force will continue to offer focus groups throughout the remainder of the year. A community survey focusing on library services and facilities is tentatively planned to be distributed early next year. If you’re interested in learning more about the Library Renewal Project, you can take a look at Task Force meeting agendas and minutes, focus group announcements and the overall project timeline on the library’s website: www.fergusfalls.lib.mn.us.
Thanks for reading and, as always, I look forward to seeing you at the library!
Erin Smith is the director of the Fergus Falls Public Library.
