Around 4 a.m., police were alerted by a witness that a woman had stolen several fire extinguishers from 1501 College Way. The witness said she had seen the woman, later identified as Melody Nickolauson, leaving the building with the extinguishers about a half hour before, but Nickolauson allegedly claimed she was using them to put out a fire in a different building. The witness later came to the conclusion that the extinguishers were stolen and called the police.

About a half hour later, Nickolauson was allegedly located in a vehicle near the Lake Region Healthcare walk-in clinic. She had allegedly been driving while intoxicated, and she had several people in the car with her, some who were young enough to be in violation of the city curfew. Police could not find the extinguishers and will be looking for them today.

Nickolauson was arrested on suspicion of DWI, theft, criminal damage to property, obstruction of the legal process, driving after the revocation of her license and having an open bottle of alcohol while driving.
