Otters look to capture CLC title

The regular season is wrapping up for both local teams as the Fergus Falls Otters and Hillcrest Comets will close out their seasons at home Wednesday evening.

The Otters are coming off a devesting 42-0 loss to St. Michael-Albertville.

But there is light at the end of the tunnel as the Otters can capture the Central Lakes Conference title with a win over visiting the St. Cloud Apollo Eagles.

The Eagles are coming off a big win versus cross town rival St. Cloud Tech last week and have been on a roll since starting the year 0-5.

“Winning the CLC title would be a huge accomplishment for our team for which they have been working hard for since the end of last season,” Otter coach Richard Risbrudt said. “That is one of our top goals this year.”

The Eagles will look to attack the Otters with a spread offensive attack, forcing the defense to play back in the run, while defensively they look to put pressure on the Fergus offense with a blitz heavy 3-5 defense.

The Otters will hope to return several key players that were missing in their last game due to injury.

“We are praying for quick healing because missing a few players on offense or defense definitely changes the dynamics of the game,” Risbrudt added.

The Otters are currently sitting at the number two seed in Section 8AAAA.

The Comets are coming off a tough loss to No. 1 ranked (9-man) Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley last week and will have another ranked opponent in Wheaton/Herman-Norcross this week.

The Warriors suffered a 27-22 loss last week versus Prairie Valley, but will look to get back on track as they near the playoffs.

The Comets will have a short week to work, but having a home game should improve on wear and tear.

Hillcrest will have to find the offensive spark from earlier in the season if they want to keep the Warriors on the run.

Both games will start at 7 p.m.
