Crusaders defeat Comets 1-0 in semis
Published 8:50am Wednesday, October 17, 2012ST. CLOUD — The Hillcrest Comets saw their season come to an end Tuesday afternoon as the St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders won a tight 1-0 Section 8A semi-final match.
“The Comets stepped up and played the best game of the season,” Hillcrest coach Rod Jensen said. “We saw an excellent team defensive effort, holding a bigger, faster, stronger opponent to a limited number of attacks on goal.”
The Comets were looking to avenge an early loss to the Crusaders came out ready to play. It was a tough battle back-and-forth as neither team could get on the board in the first half.
The Crusaders would finally find the back of the net off a deflected kick at the 67 minute mark. The Comets continued to pressure the Cathedral goal, but they could not knot it up before time expired.
“As a spectator, it had to be one of the best high school soccer games I have ever seen. As a coach, I have witnessed several times in the game of soccer, sometimes the team that plays best, does not win. Regardless, I am so proud of the HLA PR Comets. They are a wonderful group of young men,” Jensen added.
The Comets end their season with an 11-3-2 record.
