The Hillcrest Comets could not stop a charging Wheaton/Herman-Norcross Warrior run attack Wednesday evening as they fell 48-7 in their season finale.

The Warriors got on the board late in the first quarter as runningback Carter Thiel weaved his way through the Hillcrest defense for a 78 yard touchdown.

Wheaton would add another score in the second quarter as quarterback Jake Rinke found Gabe Pralle for a 13 yard touchdown reception.

The Comet defense remained tough throughout the first half as they went into the break down 14-0.

The second half begin much like the first ended as Wheaton found the endzone for a third time this time on a Thiel 11 yard carry.

The Comets would respond on the next drive as Theo Taylor plunged into the endzone for a 1 yard touchdown.

That was the last time Hillcrest would get on the board as the Warriors would add four more touchdowns to pick up the road victory.

The Warriors had two runningbacks in Thiel (151 yards) and Michael Persin (178 yards) with over 100 yards rushing in the game

Taylor led the Comets on the ground with 103 yards on 26 carries and a touchdown.

Defensively, Hillcrest’s Jared Kugler had a great night recording eight tackles and two sacks in the game, while teammate Vinnie Veum chipped in seven and a half tackles.

The Comets will now await seeding for the Section 6 9-man playoffs that begin Tuesday.
