Spartans tame Tigers in season finalePublished 10:03am Friday, October 19, 2012
ULEN — The Rothsay Tigers fought a tough battle against the Ulen-Hitterdal Spartans, but just couldn’t find the endzone as they closed out their regular season with a 6-0 road loss.
“After finishing practice on Tuesday with many of the players and staff wearing shorts and t-shirts,” Tiger coach Andrew Oland said. “I don’t think any of us were prepared for how drastically the weather can change in a 24 hour period.”
The weather only added to to the excitement of the game as both teams entered the game jostling for playoff positioning in Section 6.
The Tigers had to adjust their game plan as they abandoned the pass for a conservative run game.
A battle back and forth throughout the game, did not come out in the Tigers favor as Ulen found the endzone for the game’s only score.
The Tigers defense was stout most of the game holding the Spartans to only five first downs. Linebacker Brady Johnson who recorded 5 solo tackles, 10 assisted tackles, one sack, and one blocked punt.
Offensively, quarterback Noah Brenden finished the game with 17 rushes for 50 yards, while Brett Benden had 76 yards on 16 carries for Rothsay.
The eighth seeded Tigers will come into the playoffs as underdogs, but will look to prove doubters wrong as they travel to take on number one seeded Nevis Tuesday at 7 p.m.
