A tractor shovel squashed Oktoberfest Great-Pumpkin Weigh-off founder Dave Gottenborg’s chances of winning the contest this year, as reported in The Press.

Honors instead went to second-year winner Rick Swenson of Elizabeth, with his pumpkin weighing in at 573 pounds.

Gottenborg’s pumpkin was broken by a tractor shovel as it was being loaded for the weigh-in during last week’s Oktoberfest.
