Library Book Club to start meeting soon [UPDATED]

Read “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak and join the Library Book Club at the Fergus Falls Public Library from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 5 for lively discussion. Please note that this month we are meeting the first Monday of the month. Book club usually meets the second Monday of the month, however the library will be closed the second Monday of November.
“The Book Thief” is set in Nazi Germany and is told from the viewpoint of Death. Death relates the story of Liesel, a young German girl who steals books and tells stories to keep her family, the Jewish man they are hiding, and their neighbors going during the horrors of WWII. It is on many peoples’ best books ever read lists.
The Fergus Falls Public Library book club is always open to new members, and there is no pressure to come each month–join us whenever you are available. We read a variety of genres and many members comment that they might not have picked up that month’s book on their own, but they’re glad they had a chance to read it.
Coming up in December is “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” by Rebecca Skloot, which we will discuss from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10. During our December meeting we will also choose books for upcoming months.
Also at the library, more history events planned
Bill Jamerson’s performance at the library Monday was interesting and everyone who attended learned a lot about the CCC–a 1930’s federal jobs program.
Missed Monday’s program or want to learn more about the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps)? Join us at the Fergus Falls Public Library from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25 for a discussion of the impact of the CCC in Otter Tail County led by Missy Hermes, Education Coordinator of the Otter Tail County Historical Society. We will also watch a documentary on the CCC.
