Kenneth Harvey Van Tassel, 90, of Breckenridge

Kenneth VanTassel, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, at St. Francis Health Care Campus.

Kenneth Harvey VanTassel, son of Eugene and Alice (Harvey) VanTassel, was born on a farm northeast of Kent, on July 19, 1922. He went to grade school in the country and graduated from Breckenridge High school in 1941.

He farmed with his dad and brothers for several years and made several trips south to custom combine. He worked in the winter at different jobs including Boeing Aircraft.

Ken married Donna Czichotzki in 1948. They bought I-O-Way Resort on Otter Tail Lake in 1956, and changed the name to Greenwood Resort. They made it into a 16-cabin Resort.

In 1981, Ken married Joyce Grenier, and until 1985, they continued to run the resort. They moved to Breckenridge in 2005.

In his spare time, Ken enjoyed fishing, carpentry work, going to the Mahnomen Casino and riding snowmobile. He also enjoyed hunting with other family members.

Ken is survived by his wife Joyce; three step-children, Kenny (Darlene) Grenier of Breckenridge, Paulette (Gary) Hushka of Garrison, N.D., and LaDawn (Keith) Kappes of Kent; eight step-grandchildren; and 17 step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; seven sisters; and four brothers.

Visitation: Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home

Service: 1:30 p.m. Monday, at Breckenridge Lutheran Church, Breckenridge
