Viking boys qualify for state meet

NEW LONDON — The Pelican Rapids Viking boys cross country team will be making a trip to St. Olaf College for the Class A state meet as they took runner-up honors at the Section 6A meet Thursday.modest

Albany captured the top spot edging the Vikings by four points.

The Vikings were led by Cody Bekkerus as he finished with a time of 16:55 for second place.

Jesus Romero (17:40, 10th), Erik Lynnes (18:17, 19th), Mahad Aden (18:20, 22nd) and freshman Sam Cruz (18:54, 37th) all aided in the state trip.

On the girls side, Emily Bakken and Tianna Wald both cashed their ticket to the state tournament as they finished fifth (15:28) and seventh (15:37), respectively.

Rounding out the Vikings team were Charlotte Johnson (16:27) in 17th place, Emma Hoover (17:29) in 33rd place, Ashlyn French (17:38) in 40th place, Alexa Bekkerus (17:41) in 43rd place and Abby Johnson (18:35) in 64th place.

The state meet will be held on Nov. 3 at St. Olaf College.
