BARNESVILLE — The Pelican Rapids Vikings went on the road this Saturday to take on a hungry Barnesville Trojan football team. The home team took the victory by a score of 28-21.

The Trojans wasted no time scoring on their first drive, Austin Martz scampered to the outside for a 40 yard touchdown, the kick was missed. Pelican fumbled on the next kickoff, and three plays later Barnesville found the end zone again on a seven yard run by Michael Strand.

The Trojans had a 14-0 lead before the Vikings even had the ball on offense.

Quarterback Devin Schell led his Viking offense down the field in the second quarter and scored the touchdown himself on a two yard run.

The Pelican Rapids defense held strong and got their offense good field position to set up their second touchdown on a six yard pass from Schell to Travis Haugen. The ballgame was tied at the half 14-14.

Barnesville battled back and answered in the second half with a two yard run by Strand for his second score of the night.

In a very back and forth game the Vikings answered that touchdown on a 10 yard scamper by Carlos Gutierrez and Pelican found themselves in the lead 21-20 going into the fourth.

After a few three and outs by both teams, the Trojans busted loose and put together one last scoring drive capped off by a seven yard run by Strand. The Trojan defense would hold for the remainder of the game and the final score was 28-21 in favor of the Trojans.

The loss caps off a 7-3 season for the Vikings.
