The Fergus Falls Otters continued their road through the Section 8AAA playoffs Tuesday with a three set sweep (25-13, 25-15, 25-11) of the Rocori Spartans in the section semi-finals.raw

The Otters came out aggressive on offense and set the tone from game one.

“We talked about coming out fast and playing aggressive volleyball,” Otter coach Renee Erickson said. “The girls were able to pass the ball well in the beginning of the game and it carried over throughout the match.”

The Otters offensive attack was balanced as Mogan Hensch (8), Anna Monke (7), Laura Gaustad (6) and Kristin Traiser (5) recorded kills in the match.

Devonie Smith was the defensive leader as she dug out 18 balls, while teammate Brianna Rasmussen provided the firepower from the service line going 12 for 14 with four aces.

Fergus will travel to Detroit Lakes to take on the Bemidji Lumberjills, a 3-2 winner over Monticello.

The Otters will look avenge last season’s section title loss to the Lumberjills, who went on to the Class 3A state tournament losing to both Lakeville North and Cretin-Derham Hall.

“This was one of the girls goals for the season and they are very focused on what they need to do. It is very exciting to get this opportunity,” Erickson added.

The game is slated for a 7 p.m. start time Saturday.
