This eight-hour course is for anyone who is interested in obtaining a permit to carry a handgun or just learn how to use a handgun including maintenance, care, safety and live firing.

Participants will be instructed in Minnesota statutes governing permits to carry; handgun basics including care and maintenance; types of ammunition; handgun safety; shooting positions; use of deadly force scenarios

Participants will spend time on the college’s shooting/use of force simulator which will put them in simulated use of deadly force situations. Live fire shooting will be conducted in Alex Tech’s indoor range.

Participants must be 21 years of age or older to obtain a permit. Participants 16 or older can take the class as a safety course (16-20 are not eligible for a permit to carry). Participants under 18 must have a parent/guardian will them the whole day as an observer.

Indicate the make, model, and caliber of the handgun you will be using during class.

This information needs to be included with your registration to ensure that the gun you are using conforms to the range standards.

If you do not have a handgun, a rental handgun can be made available for $5 (participants provide ammunition). Participants will need at least 100 rounds of factory new ammunition for the live fire shoot.

The class will be Oct. 27 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the ATCC Room 794 and Indoor Firing Range.
