Fred Splittgerber, 73, of Pelican Rapids

Fred Splittgerber, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls, surrounded by his family.

Fred Henry Splittgerber was born Dec. 31, 1938, at the Fergus Falls hospital, the son of Henry and Thelma (Leeper) Splittgerber of rural Erhard.

He worked several years for Ouren Brother’s Construction and All Builder’s Construction of Fergus Falls.

He was a self-employed carpenter until his retirement.

Fred married Darlene Joyce Melkert on Nov. 28, 1959, at Tonseth Lutheran Church, near Erhard.

He was a member of Pelican Rapids Baptist Church.

His hobbies were fishing, woodworking, being outdoors, yard work and gardening, planting trees and flowers, and being with his grandchildren.

Fred is survived by his wife, Darlene, Pelican Rapids; his children, Steve (Ailene) Splittgerber of River Falls, Wis., Lori (Dale) Johnson of Pelican Rapids, and Larry (Tammy) Splittgerber of Belle Plaine; grandchildren, Tyler (Stephanie) Splittgerber, River Falls, Wis., Chrissy Splittgerber, St. Louis Park, Cody Splittgerber, River Falls, Wis., Michelle Johnson and Marissa Johnson of Pelican Rapids, Sean Splittgerber and Veronica Splittgerber of Belle Plaine; a great-grandchild, Chloe Mae Splittgerber; his brother, Dennis (Carol) Splittgerber of Erhard; a sister, Vonnie (Mark) Kenyon of Vergas; a brother-in-law, Earl (Barb) Melkert; and many nieces and nephews.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation: Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, at Pelican Rapids Baptist Church, Pelican Rapids

Burial: Lake Lida Baptist Cemetery, Pelican Rapids
