FF girls have one more goal to go [UPDATED]
Published 11:28am Friday, November 2, 2012 Updated 11:40am Friday, November 2, 2012Every team makes a list of goals that they want to accomplish during the season. They range from improving every game, winning more than half our games, competing everytime on the court or finding our chemistry.
The Fergus Falls volleyball team put forth several goals this season and only one remains on their list — win the Section 8AAA title.
“It is the goal at the top of our sheet,” Otter coach Renee Erickson said. “Our girls have worked really hard to get here, some this is what they have looked forward to throughout their high school career.”
The Otters will take the court Saturday evening in Detroit Lakes looking for their first Section 8AAA title in school history.
Standing in their way is last season’s section champion Bemidji.
This games story line goes very deep as the Otters were upset last season by Bemidji in the section title game. This season the Otters received the first seed in the section over the Lumberjills by coin flip, as the coaches’ vote came up dead even between the two teams.
“We both technically tied for the first seed,” Otter assistant coach Denny Hystead said. “The team that comes out on top this game can claim bragging rights over the other.”
The Otters really haven’t been the underdog in any of their contests this season, but going into the section title game, they do have an underdog mentallity.
“Bemidji is big and strong at the net. They come into this game with state experience and they know what it takes to get there,” added Erickson.
Bemidji was a 3-2 winner over Monticello Tuesday evening, boosting their record to 22-3 on the year.
The Otters and coach Renee Erickson would like to thank everyone for coming out and supporting the Fergus Falls volleyball team throughout the season.
“We hope to come out and have a great match against Bemidji and show why we belong in the title game.”
The showdown will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday.
