Employees and customers of the Fergus Falls Walmart were evacuated Saturday evening and the store closed after store management had received a threatening call, according to Fergus Falls Police.

Shots were not fired during the incident, as incorrectly reported in Sunday’s Journal. Fargo-based KVLY-TV also did not report that shots were fired.

The employee who took the call said the individual had made a specific thret of violence toward employees and customers, and he led the employee to believe the threat was imminent, according to a police news release.

No other details about the type or nature of the threat is being released. However, police officials say no one was taken hostage within the store, no one was observed making threats or displaying weapons in the store, and no one was injured as a result of the incident.

The store reopened after a security sweep was completed. About 20 officers from Fergus Falls Police, the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, the State Patrol and the DNR responded.

Fergus Falls Police will be working with Walmart corporate security to investigate the threat. They also will determine whether the threat was isolated to the Fergus Falls store, or if other Walmart locations were affected.
