No one was injured in a fire that started in a wood burning shed and spread to the nearby home, located about 7 miles north of Battle Lake on Highway 78 Saturday afternoon.

A passing motorist called the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s office about 4 p.m. to report the fire at 26982 Highway 78. Though the fire was in a small unattached shed used for an outdoor woodstove, the fire became too hot and spread to the home, located a short distance from the shed, according to the Sheriff’s report.

Members of the Battle Lake and Ottertail Fire Department responded to the fire.

The house sustained a great amount of fire and smoke damage. No one was home at the time of the fire.

Arson is not believed to be the cause of the fire, according to the report.
