Driver injured in accident near NYM

A driver suffered severe injuries in a car accident near New York Mills Saturday.

Edward Jay, 47, of New York Mills was driving his Chevrolet S-10 pickup east on Highway 56 at about 10:30 p.m. when the vehicle went off the road, hitting an embankment and a tree.

The vehicle was totaled, and Jay suffered severe injuries to his head, chest, abdomen and lower extremities. He was airlifted to a facility in St. Cloud. The extent of the injuries has not been released, but Jay is expected to be released today.

New York Mills and Bluffton fire departments responded to the scene along with Tri-County Ambulance.
