Jordan Hein lead the number one seeded Perham Yellowjackets to another state tournament bid Friday in the Fargodome where they defeated the Park Rapids Panthers by a score of 51-26.

The Yellowjackets struck first on their first drive of the game on a four yard quarterback keeper by the senior Hein. Park Rapids came back strong and struck back on a 76 yard touchdown pass, but the score came back on a holding penalty. Perham answered the bell again on their next drive on the first play Nick Bahls took an option pitch for a long touchdown run to give the Yellowjackets a quick two score lead. The Perham defense got involved in the scoring next when Hein intercepted a Panther pass for a 20 yard score.

Park Rapids finally got a nice drive together and finished it off with a one yard score by running back David Dirks. After exchanging a few punts Hein lead the offense down the field one last time in the half, where Hein found Eli Beachy in the end zone on a 13 yard strike. The scoreboard read 25-6 in favor of the Perham Yellowjackets to end the half.

The Panthers would get a key stop on Perham’s first drive to start the second half setting up their second score of the game on a long pass score where quarterback Tyler McCollum found Zach Eystad to bring Park Rapids to a 25-14 ballgame. The Yellowjackets would come back with a nice drive but Payton Jordahl fumbled on the Panther 35 yard line, and the next play Zach Eystad took a reverse 65 yards to the house to bring the underdog Panthers to a 25-20 scoreboard.

After another great Yellowjacket drive, Hein found the end zone on a five yard touchdown for his fourth touchdown of the game, giving the Yellowjackets a comfortable 31-20 lead. But the Park Rapids Panthers would not back down putting together another great drive lead by McCollum who found receiver Ian Johnson for a 36 yard touchdown strike to bring the game to 31-26. Jordan Hein would find pay dirt for the fifth time in the game on another quarterback keeper this one going for two yards to give Perham a 37-26 lead. Payton Jordahl would get a key interception to set up a 32 yard strike from Hein to Tyler Glines for another score to give the Yellowjackets a 44-26 lead. At this point Perham would not look back and would score once more to secure the win.

Senior Jordan Hein would finish the game with 217 rushing yards on 27 carries while finding the endzone three times on his feet, he also threw for another 156 yards and two more scores and don’t forget about his 20 yard interception return for touchdown giving him six total touchdowns on the game. He also broke a Perham school record for most total offensive yards in a game with 373 total yards.

The Yellowjackets broke two team records for total offensive yards in a game with 593, along with 716 all purpose yards.

Perham played some great offensive football and just really seemed to be on key the whole night.

Perham will travel to the University of Minnesota Duluth for their first round in state, they will be taking on the section seven champions the Esko Eskimos who have a record of 8-2.
