“Our girls came ready to play,” Rockets coach Diane Ross said. “I’m so proud of them. They were focused and determined to play hard.”

Underwood went back and forth with Barnesville in the opening set, but edged the Trojans by two.

The momentum stayed with the Rockets the rest of the night as they were able to take the next two sets and stamp their ticket to the state tournament.

“We played our best defensive match of the year. It’s been fun watching them compete harder each game in the section.”

Tara Skauge led the Underwood defense with 20 digs, while teammate Kaitlyn Holen tallied 14 digs of her own and aided in the offensive output with 14 kills.

The Rockets will now head to St. Paul to take on the No. 4 (Class A) Southwest Christian Stars in Thursday’s 3 p.m. state quarterfinal matchup.
