High voter turnout continued to be the trend in Otter Tail County, though it was not quite as high as the general elections in 2008.

With all precincts counted, 91 percent of people registered in Otter Tail County turned out to vote. A total 96 percent turned out in 2008.

In Otter Tail County individual voter registration for the 2012 election totaled 34,826.

Several Otter Tail County cities and townships had voter turnouts above 95 percent, including Fergus Falls Ward One at 98.05 percent, Aastad Twp. at 99.19 percent, and Vining at 100 percent.

Minnesota has had the highest voter turnout in 12 of the past 16 elections, including the past eight straight. Minnesota’s average eligible voter turnout in the past six elections – 67.6 percent – is 16.4 percentage points higher than the national average.

“The most effective policy is same-day registration,” MN Secretary of State Mark Ritchie says.
