Fog leads to two auto crashes

Foggy conditions led to two crashes involving three cars and a tractor Wednesday morning near Rothsay.

A Toyota, Matrix driven by Mary Worner, 71, of Underwood attempted to pass two vehicles including a sprayer tractor driven by Wesley Mohagen, 57, of Wendel at about 8:30 a.m. While Worner was passing, the tractor made a left turn, resulting in a collision.

The tractor allegedly had its left blinker on, but Worner reported she couldn’t see the right side of the vehicle and thought the blinker was the tractor’s hazard lights.

The crash caused a chain reaction that led to a rear-end collision between a Toyota, Corolla driven by Margene Newton, 57, of Rothsay and a Chevrolet, Traverse driven by Daniel Thorson, 61, of Battle Lake.

All vehicles involved were driving north on County Highway 88. No injuries were reported, but all four vehicles sustained at least $1,000 in damage.
