M State wins OT thriller over Jimmie JV, 99-93

The M-State Fergus Falls Mens Spartan basketball team opened up their season Wednesday hosting the Jamestown Jimmies.

In coach Josh Mohagen’s first game as M State’s head coach, the Spartans prevailed in a close game led by sophomore captains Shane Bosek, Rapheal Cabaniss and Jason Nelson to secure the overtime win by a score of 99-93.

It was a back and forth first half for both teams tonight as neither team could pull away from the other.

The game was tied 13 times throughout the night, The biggest lead the Spartans had was a nine point ballgame. Jamestown came out and had a great second half, but the Spartans were right on their tail as M State found themselves down two points with under a minute to go.

Mohagen drew up a pretty backdoor play as Cabaniss found Bosek in the middle of the lane for a big two handed slam to bring the game to overtime.

M-State had the momentum from a fired up crowd and won the overtime 12-6 securing them the 99-93 victory.

Shane Bosek led the Spartans with 24 points and nine rebounds to go along with it. To help out in the scoring attack Nelson chipped in 18, along with Cabaniss having 13.

The Jimmies were lead by Nate Willer and Mark Potter who had 18 and 17 points respectively.

The Spartans are back in action Wednesday night with another home game hosting the NDSCS Wildcats at 8 p.m.
