Let’s GOBBLE UP!

Published 12:46pm Friday, November 9, 2012

Have you eaten a Gobble Up turkey sandwich? If so, you already know how delicious it is! If you have not tried it, you will definitely want to enjoy this unique and easy meal with your family and friends: ASAP!

“Gobble Up Turkey” is a unique business that was purchased in 1996 by Greg and Missy Keil. Turkeys are injected and roasted on a gas grill. Forty turkeys can be grilled at the same time! Ladies (once in a while men) from the Perham area arrive, carve the turkeys and place the meat in a bag. Gobble Up Turkey’s “secret recipe” is then added to the bag which is sealed and sold.

Missy smiled, “Business has grown in leaps and bounds over the years, all by word of mouth. We have customers from all over Minnesota and beyond. It is always exciting to see where our customers are from and how far they traveled to get Gobble Up Turkey!” FYI: Many buy Gobble Up in the Perham area and now Fergus Falls sales are gigantic.

Large bags are filled with an entire turkey and small bags feature a half. A large bag feeds approximately 20 people ($34.00) and the smaller bag is sold for $20.00. Five large bags feeds over 100 people (most want TWO sandwiches). The secret juice creates the most mouthwatering turkey! “The bags can remain in the fridge for 7 days from the day it’s developed,” Missy suggested. “If you want to keep it for future events or family gatherings, you can immediately place it in the freezer which should be great for a year…but our family has never had any of our bags last that long.”

The turkey is completely cooked, so you will just need to warm it up. Missy suggests that Gobble Up could be warmed in a crock pot (approx. 3 hours), in an oven (3 hours) or microwave (about 20 minutes)…but cover it up in the oven/microwave and stir the juice often. You can also make smaller pieces of turkey when stirring if needed. Many use Gobble Up Turkey for sandwiches…which is enjoyable AND easy. The turkey is also used in other recipes: soups, casseroles, fajitas, enchiladas, etc. Missy loves eating it over mashed potatoes and some customers also make gravy by thickening the “secret juice!”

“In the summer months we sell out every weekend starting in May with graduation parties, family reunions and so much more through Labor Day. People use our turkeys for all sorts of occasions and we have customers who buy anywhere from 1 bag to 200 bags!” Yes, Gobble Up Turkey is sold all year. For questions or orders, just call Missy at: 218-346-3513 and she will share directions to pick it up your order.

Want to try Gobble Up Turkey? It will be featured on Saturday, November 3rd at the FOCUS Christmas Plus Bazaar at the Perham Community Center! (You’ll love it!)
