Donald E. Schnell, 74, of Sisseton, S.D.

Donald Schnell, died on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at Rosholt Care Center in South Dakota.

Donald Eugene Schnell was born on March 30, 1938 in Amboy, Ill., the son of Roy and Florence (Eisenberg) Schnell.

Don grew up and graduated from Lee Center High School in Illinois. He then married the love of his life, Virginia Hahn on April 16, 1955 in Clinton, Iowa. Together they began their family having four children David, Dennis, Douglas, and Amy.

In 1972, Don and his family moved to the Alexandria area where they farmed near Osakis. They later moved to Fergus Falls, when Don started working for Mets Bakery.

After 20 years with Sara Lee Don retired and moved to Sisseton, S.D., to be close to his son.

Don was a kind, thoughtful and caring man who was liked by many people.

Don liked to play cards and spend time with his children and grandchildren. He also liked to stay busy by fixing things around the house and keeping his yard looking nice. Don enjoyed trapping and fishing.

He took many fishing trips with his family teaching his children how to fish and camp. Don also enjoyed traveling with Virginia.

Together they enjoyed taking casino trips and driving around country.

During their travels they visited every continental state except Florida.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Virginia Schnell of Sisseton, S.D.; sons David (Gayle) Schnell of Sisseton, S.D.; Dennis (Pat) Schnell of Alexandria; Douglas (Val) Schnell of Fond du Lac, Wis.; daughter Amy (Mark) Steele of Osakis; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister Gloria Moore of Aurora, Ill.; nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service is planned Monday at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, with burial in Hudson Cemetery near Alexandria. Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria is in charge of arrangements.
