WARROAD — Fergus Falls swimmer Abby Fisher will advance to the Class A state meet Saturday with win in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke at the Section 8A meet.

Fisher’s 100 backstroke time of 1:00.53 broke the pool record in the event. The record was formly held by Fisher’s sister, Kara.

The Otters finished in third as a team with 248 points, behind Bemidji (502.5) and Park Rapids Area (434.5).

Fergus nearly had a spot in two other events as the 200 medley relay team just missed state qualifying by finishing in third, while Rachel Appert took fifth in diving with a score of 302.35 at the section meet.

“A great team that performed very well this weekend; a combination of 27 Best Times,” Otter coach Tom Uvaas said. “ I am very proud of their effort and now looking forward to seeing how well Abby does at State.”

Fisher will now travel to the Minneapolis Thursday to compete at the University of Minnesota’s Aquatic Center.
