DULUTH — Things seem to get easier for the Perham Yellowjackets as they move through the Class AAA playoffs. Saturday, in the state quarter-finals, the Yellowjackets were able to due damage with their legs as they rushed for 351 yards to defeat the Esko Eskomos 42-8.

Perham started the scoring on their opening drive as Payton Jordahl broke a 35 yard touchdown run. It was a back in forth battle until the end of the first quarter as the ‘Jackets held a 7-0 lead.

The floodgates opened in the second quarter as Perham put on a clinic with three touchdown runs, two by quarterback Jordan Hein of two and five yards and Jordahl’s second from two yards out. The Yellowjackets would hold a 28-0 lead at the break with the momentum in their favor.

The Eskomos could not stop the potent ground attack of the Yellowjackets as Perham’s first possession of the second half saw a four play 92 yard drive end with Luke Sailer sprinting for a 39 yard touchdown run.

Perham would get their final score in the fourth quarter as Eli Beachy found a gap in the defense for a 17 yard touchdown jaunt. Esko would not leave the game shutout as a 25 yard touchdown run by Earl Brinkley and a two point conversion gave them a late fourth quarter score.

Hein continued to do a lot of his work on the ground as he rushed for 128 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown. Hein broke the Perham single season rushing record with a 1608 total yards.

Josh Nordick recorded two interceptions in the game for Perham. Nordick’s two picks saw him break two school records for interceptions in a season and career, putting him at seven this season and 11 total, with possibly two games to go.

The Yellowjackets will advance to the Class AAA semi-finals to take on the Blue Earth Area Buccaneers at Mall of America Field in the Metrodome Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
