Ruth E. Nelson, 98, of Maddock, N.D.

Ruth Nelson, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at the Heart of America Medical Center Hospital in Rugby, N.D.

Ruth E. Alfstad was born July 19, 1914 in Valhalla, Township in rural Sheyenne, N.D., to Alvin and Hilda (Mattson) Alfstad.

She married Alvin G. Nelson on July 31, 1934, at her parents home. The couple lived on the farm in South Viking Township until moving to Maddock in 1951.

They returned to the farm in 1963. Alvin passed away on Sept. 8, 1985.

Surviving are her children, Donna Rice of Maddock, Alva (Don) Stoa of Fergus Falls, Sandra (Dale) Olson of Maddock, Loren Nelson of Peoria, Ariz., and Marsha (Irv) Smith of Bismarck, N.D.; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Thueson of Anaheim, Calif.

Funeral services were Friday, Nov. 9, at Viking Lutheran Church in rural Maddock, with the Rev. Allen Campbell officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock, N.D., was in charge of arrangements.
