FERGUS FALLS — The Lady Spartans are coming off of a 13-15 season and look to start off their 2012-2013 campaign with a win on Wednesday when the host North Dakota School of Science.

They will be led by Head Coach Brenda Johnson who is entering her third season as Spartans Head Coach.

Look for Sophomores Morgan Kapphahn (Bertha Hewitt), Rhoda Christensen (Fergus Falls), Alyssa Blair (Elbow Lake) and Aria Walstad (Hancock) to get good minutes and provide leadership for M-State as the sophomore core of the squad. Coach Johnson had a solid recruiting class this fall which will be headlined by Donna Ripplinger (Upsala) Maria Johnson (Pelican Rapids), and Shae Brown (Hancock).

“We look to have a quick team who likes to run the ball and play some tenacious defense. We will have good depth and a strong group of first year players. We play in a very strong division and a tough schedule that will help us to achieve a post season birth.” said Spartans’ Head Coach Brenda Johnson.

An interesting fact about this year’s team is that they are all from Minnesota and that cannot be said by many other Junior College Basketball teams. Coach Johnson looks for Anoka Ramsey and Rochester to be the favorites for the conference.

She will be assisted by Janice Hendrickson, Jessica Price, and Krista Shaikoski. She replaced the long time coach Ann Williams who left a legacy here at M-State.

All of the Coaches on the staff were former graduates of M-State and all played under Coach Williams here as a Lady Spartan.
