Acquisition a boon for Fergus Falls [UPDATED]

Because of the completion of the POW – MIA Veterans bridge, the Fergus Falls Port Authority decided to purchase about 90 acres of land for industrial use. This is an investment in the city that should be applauded by all.

Not only was the Port Authority able to purchase the land in a prime location, they did it without asking for any funding from the city; therefore, we, as taxpayers, will not be affected by the $500,000 land acquisition.

There has been a lot of buzz about boosting the local economy, and with a straight shot to I-94 and immediate railroad access, there is little doubt manufacturers will soon begin to fill in the available land. Every time a business comes to town, jobs are created and the local economy gets a boost.

In order for the city to grow and prosper, new and innovative businesses need a reason to move here, and the Port Authority’s acquisition will provide just that.

The Port Authority didn’t come across this land out of luck. The recent purchase was the product of many years of hard work and planning on the part of the city and Port Authority, and we commend them for that.
